Things to do in Acapulco

From Some Tuesday Marina Acapulco, by the old town and Playa Manzanillo, was our marina. We were there from 15 to 22 February 2026. Meghan flew home from here. We did not clear out of Mexico in Acapulco.

La Quebrada, La Perla, and the coves From Some Tuesday

We watched the cliff divers at La Quebrada twice: once from La Perla, and once from the anchorage. The story.

We anchored in the cove off the divers, then off Isla La Roqueta, and later in Puerto Márques before the run south.

While I was still here From Some Tuesday

Meghan flew home from Acapulco in February for back surgery. While I was still here, cartel violence broke out, and it was news worldwide. Friends and family knew we were in Mexico, so we got lots of concerned calls and texts. She had changed planes in Guadalajara about 24 hours before. On 22 February 2026, Mexican security forces killed El Mencho, and The Guardian reported passengers sprinting for cover at Guadalajara airport. The airport said there was no gun battle inside the building. Read the full story in the Captain’s Log: the day the news broke and leaving the next morning.

Departing crew From Some Tuesday

Meghan flew home from Acapulco. I had to list her as departing crew with the Port Captain, and the Marina Acapulco agent helped me do it. If I hadn’t, the authorities in Chiapas could have had a problem clearing me out, because the crew list wouldn’t have matched who was actually aboard.

Whenever someone leaves or joins the boat, update the crew list with the Port Captain at that port.

The same agent recommended not clearing out of Mexico at Acapulco, because it was much easier in Chiapas. We took that advice. I sailed on alone and checked out at Puerto Chiapas.

From the marina quote, the berth for those dates was MXN 1,386.20 a day: berth 1,305, water 23.20, and power 58. I don’t recommend doing Mexican clearance alone. The marina agents are worth the money, especially for the international clear-out.

Next port on our papers: Puerto Chiapas. The permit rules are on the Temporary Import Permit page.

La Quebrada, La Perla, and the anchorages From Some Tuesday

From Some Tuesday We watched the famous cliff divers twice. They dive from the cliffs at Hotel Mirador Acapulco. The first time was from La Perla, the hotel’s restaurant, at a great table on the outdoor deck overlooking the show. It was extraordinary.

Later we anchored in the bay and watched from the boat. A diver swam out to say hello and collect a propina (tip). At first it was funny, and a little odd: a random guy in a Speedo, swimming up. First Mate Meg worried he had ill intentions. We quickly realized he was one of the divers, being friendly.

Most of this circulates by word of mouth among cruisers. We pulled it together, organized it, and share it free. It is not official guidance, so don’t rely on it as such.
