In 2018, Steve Dunlap sold his fintech company and started dating Meghan Fabulous, a fashion designer running a one-woman operation. At dinner they talked strategy. A few years later they owned a multi-brand fashion house together — 91% annual growth, selling in department stores across the country. Then they closed it. On their own terms. To sail around the world.
Captain Steve
Steve is from Williamsburg, Virginia, with Tidewater and Chesapeake roots running deep — he’s the grandson of a Colonial Williamsburg historian. His summers were spent on North Carolina’s Outer Banks, and he learned to sail in Annapolis.
He spent more than 30 years in financial technology. He helped build AnnuityNet during the dot-com era, served as President & COO of FolioDynamix (acquired by Envestnet for $195 million), and ran the wealth management business at Cetera Financial Group (acquired for $1.15 billion). On the water, he won the Newport to Ensenada race.
He is the proud father of two sons: Hank, who lives in Dallas and works in eCommerce and apparel, and Carter, who lives in Los Angeles, studies auto and diesel mechanics, and makes music.
First Mate Meg
Meghan is a native of Orange County, California, and learned to sew from her mother at age four. She lived in China for eight years running apparel production, then built Meghan Fabulous into a brand celebrated for bold, vibrant, joyful “wearable art” — three labels, sold direct-to-consumer, wholesale, and in department stores.

Then she closed the empire to sail as First Mate Meg. Since leaving, she’s returned to creating art purely for her own satisfaction — no commercial pressure, just color and joy. She shares that work on @meghan_fabulous and meghanfabulous.com.
